Chopin's Piano Sonata no. 2 Op. 35
in Four Movements

This four-part visual interpretation of Chopin's Piano Sonata Op. 35, draws on Chopin's opening citation of the Baroque cross motif (cf. Bach's Kreuzmotiv) as a symbol of death — a gesture the piece ties to Beethoven's diminished seventh opening chords in his final piano sonata (Op. 111). Rendered in white lithopone ink and pastels fabricated by the artist, this motif is developed and transformed across the sonata's four movements.

The piece was performed live with Korean pianist Ahhyun Lee at Palais Sommer's Klaviernacht, an open-air piano night held at the heart of Dresden's Neumarkt.
